Hey hey, today I'm coming back to December 2018 in Zaragoza - a quick stop on our way to Pyrenees. You can see the posts here: https://mia-photos.com/personal/pyrenees-part-1 (will open in a new window). There're few about Pyrenees, - search by word 'pyrenees' to see them all :)
-
Zaragoza, in all honesty, didn't make much of an impression to me.. maybe because we've only been to the very centre of the city; maybe the weather was a bit too freezing, - I don't know but it had a feeling of a cold, industrial city to me.
-
Two things were attractive, though: a lot of narrow pedestrian streets and areas, and.. TABERNAS (or cafes), no matter how hungry you're - there's always smthg to grab or drink there :)) esp they were full in December around Xmas time when everyone goes in to get a hot drink, to meet friends, discuss business - any cause does for a couple of hot chocolates, wine or cervezas ;)
-
The city is also full of very nice, Spanish historic architecture. For example this cafe, looking like an old train station, was built in 1885 as a jewellery shop and then became a famous meeting point in one of the most central streets of Zaragoza (Calle Alfonso I, 25).
-
Even these street bins looking like a part of the history or at least piece of art =)
-
'El pastor del águila' (or Eagle shepherd) statue by Pablo Gargallo at Calle Antonio Candalija
-
..and 'la pastora fria', hehe
-
Spanish flags everywhere :)
-
Then we had a huge lunch on this main city square, and, feeling energised, went to check out the cathedral from inside..
-
It's called Catedral Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, was consecrated in the 1st or 2nd century AD, and built from 1681 to 1872/1961 (Russian and English Wiki versions..)). You can Google it to find out more ;)
-
Impressive, bit pompesque Baroque style
-
That chandelier looks totally like the 'lyustra' one we had in our Moscow flat where I grew up, maybe only 10-15 times bigger))))
-
Beautiful mosaic window and another chandelier =)
-
Edu's eyes questioning the American flag's presence in a Spanish church..)
-
Raised in an Orthodox Christian country, then nearly converted to Judaism, I've never been inside of these Catholic confession booths in my life! Always wanted to go there.. hehe, maybe next time!
-
And we're back on the main square. These are the cathedral towers, you can go up the largest one by taking elevator for 3€ only :)
-
Fiesta, forever!. :)
-
Left the city and headed further up to Pyrenees, with this ferris wheel disappearing in the back sight..
Hope you liked the post and are enjoying your weekend guys!! Edu's finally back from Lanzarote (see the previous post below), so we're gonna have a niiiice, relaxing, - before tomorrow's half-marathon, - time on the sofa with the cats and movies. He missed them so much, sure they've missed him too! Never can tell with cats though, heh..) X
