Benijo beach and friend's bday

Drove up from San Andres to Anaga mountains - one of the greenest areas in Tenerife if not the greenest!
-
The road is surrounded by forests and goes through a tunnel, which brings you to the other side of the island :)
-
Not too sunny Taganana village :)

Benijo beach or Playa de Benijo, where we had our small walking up& down the steps' exercise as we realised that the tide was too high to even put a blanket and lay down..
-
Took some photos though.. hehe (Edu's face expression says it all about his love and attitude to selfies..)))

So we came up and drove a little back to Almaciga beach - more wide and flat than Benijo.

Felt sooo good to just sit / lay down on the warm, black sand beach, stretch out legs and read the book, while my handsome, crazy man was beach running and swimming in a 15' degrees water the next day after half-marathon. Quite helps for a quick recovery actually, so I did it too =)

Then we had a company of seagulls; we fed them and headed back home as it was almost sunset, hence a bit nippy))

Happy Bday!!! He's got a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l house which he's planning to turn into a small boutique hotel (??)) one day :)
Below some mad pics of me next to BBQ with lotsa meat (no, I'haven't tasted a one piece!!!! Only zucchinis & grilled tomatoes, yum!))) p.s. All the cooked meat was eaten by the boys, nothing's been wasted.

Zaragoza

Zaragoza, in all honesty, didn't make much of an impression to me.. maybe because we've only been to the very centre of the city; maybe the weather was a bit too freezing, - I don't know but it had a feeling of a cold, industrial city to me.

Two things were attractive, though: a lot of narrow pedestrian streets and areas, and.. TABERNAS (or cafes), no matter how hungry you're - there's always smthg to grab or drink there :)) esp they were full in December around Xmas time when everyone goes in to get a hot drink, to meet friends, discuss business - any cause does for a couple of hot chocolates, wine or cervezas ;)

The city is also full of very nice, Spanish historic architecture. For example this cafe, looking like an old train station, was built in 1885 as a jewellery shop and then became a famous meeting point in one of the most central streets of Zaragoza (Calle Alfonso I, 25).

Even these street bins looking like a part of the history or at least piece of art =)

Then we had a huge lunch on this main city square, and, feeling energised, went to check out the cathedral from inside..

It's called Catedral Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, was consecrated in the 1st or 2nd century AD, and built from 1681 to 1872/1961 (Russian and English Wiki versions..)). You can Google it to find out more ;)

Raised in an Orthodox Christian country, then nearly converted to Judaism, I've never been inside of these Catholic confession booths in my life! Always wanted to go there.. hehe, maybe next time!

And we're back on the main square. These are the cathedral towers, you can go up the largest one by taking elevator for 3€ only :)

Short Lanzarote getaway

Edu's dropped me off and went working poor thing, while I decided to go for a sunset walk to the lighthouse (Faro de Pechiguera) after a quick nap and coffee

This one looked so posh and high-end, until I saw a 'neatly disguised' pile of rubbish from construction (see below), right next to the pool area with cafe, sunbeds etc..

Envy all birds in general and these three seagulls particularly: they can fly and sit anywhere they want, to enjoy the sunset, for example (sorry for the quality - these are all iPhone snaps)

And I'm back to the hotel. Think I could totally live here for awhile.. =)

When I came back, my legs were SO tired that I wanted to check how much was walked.. Around 14 km ! Decided to consider this as a workout / part of training program before half-marathon. ;)
UPD: this map shows it by car, so re-calculated time for walking by the promenade is ±5,3 km each way, so around 11k in total :)

It was a stormy day, so the Atlantic ocean was quite rough but ohh so beautiful!.

Interesting to think and observe how with the time people adjust their lives around water. Esp in the north of Tenerife where there's still some local life presented, and hotel industry & tourists haven't invaded it completely. Yet..

Ppl have adjusted their living and money making, sort of submerging into nature
-
Also interesting to see what nature (and ocean) can do without human intervening... doesn't have to be long really, just a couple of years can completely change the picture.
-
We think we have our almighty G-d who'll protect us, so we create these saint idols, we build churches to praise them and the G-d.. believing it can change something. While the nature, - the whole universe including ourselves - is really G-d itself.

And we can only accept it as a fact, sometimes the best thing to do
